Insulated Hydronic Piping Systems

LDC Insulated Pipe

This insulated hydronic piping system provides adequate insulation protection to the environment and between the supply & return piping using Large Diameter High Density Expanded Polystyrene Conduit Insulation. The piping used in this system is typically either Hydronic PEX or PEX-Al-PEX 90% of building sites are dry enough for this to be the most economical hydronic piping system. If this system was to be used where "moderate" ground table moisture is present, the installation of the piping system does not provide moisture protection so that heat is "wicked" away from the piping system. It is not recommended that this system be used in a high ground table moisture situation! There are a variety of cost effective methods that can provide moisture protection to this piping system to make it viable.
The insulated hydronic piping system depicted to the left uses Urecon's Factory Insulated Duct System to provide adequate moisture & insulation protection to the environment, but does not provide adequate insulation between the supply & return piping. The piping used in this system is typically either Hydronic PEX or PEX-Al-PEX
The three depicted insulated hydronic piping systems to the left provide adequate moisture & insulation protection to the environment, but do not provide adequate insulation between the supply & return piping (the plug on the end of the two piping systems is just there for show and does not actually separate the supply and return piping).

These hydronic piping systems should only be used when the designer considers the implications to the fact that the return heat transfer fluid will be cooling the supply fluid and whether he can make it work with the heat exchangers required in the heating system.
