Stainless Steel Versus Refractory Bricks: An important feature that distinguishes
an efficient fireplace is the construction of its combustion chamber.
Most fireplaces on the market have an interior completely made of
refractory bricks. This, however, can be problematic and can decrease
the performance of your fireplace for several reasons. First of all,
bricks insulate the combustion chamber, making it more difficult to
start a fire and to actually transfer heat in the room. Furthermore,
refractory bricks require a lot of maintenance. They have a tendency to
crack and frequently need to be replaced. In addition, refractory bricks
reduce the opening of the combustion chamber, decreasing the view of the
flame. |
